Forget the hustle and bustle of large city centre shopping arcades with generic shops, generic goods and queues galore for finishing (or starting!) the Christmas gift shopping this year.
The Lake District should be the destination this year. A far more relaxed affair yet with a plethora of independent shops is the perfect place to buy some really extra special gifts. Kendal in particular is a great place for a weekend break being the gateway to the Lake District with the famous Lakeland fells on the doorstep. This thriving market town is full of great shops. And now the Christmas lights have been switched so the whole town looks extremely festive.
Kendal has shops selling some excellent local goods such as food and crafts and high quality bath and body products, keep an eye out for little gems to be found down the many yards. Combine these with the Westmorland Shopping Centre, the excellent Elephant Yard and Wainwright’s also Beales the department store. New for 2016 s the chance to purchase a Kendal gift card too to use in many of the town’s shops. If you’re stuck for something to buy someone then this is an ideal gift.
Hop on the train or just a short drive and Windermere and Bowness awaits with more shops and of course Lake Windermere. Walk up Orrest Head, walk along the Lake shore or take a cruise to complete the weekend away.
